Many of our citizens are badly scared, feeling all alone, and not doing well. Something awful has happened in their life or the life of someone they love dearly. They don’t know what to do about it, or how to recover. They are off balance and hurting. Sleep is disturbed. They are not eating right. There is little motivation to get out of bed, exercise, socialize or go to work if they do have a job. Life is a mess. They need help, but don’t know where to turn. Family and friends don’t know what to say or do, so back off. Am I describing someone you know?
What is PTSD? (Check out the pamphlet for an overview.) God knows all about bad happenings and what follows. His Word, the Bible tells us this: “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10. Here in a nutshell is the problem and the solution. But it seems to be our nature to look in all the wrong places for solutions and only to turn to God after everything else has failed.
As a war veteran who served 27 long months in Vietnam with the combat infantry, I can speak firsthand about shock and awe and how to recover. It is not only war that can cause PTSD. A bad childhood or a tramatic incident or accident (rape, car accident, etc.) can result in PTSD. Also there is an effect called Survivor’s Guilt that happens to some bystanders….
There are many wonderful people who want to help: family, friends, doctors, counselors, etc. Many can be helped simply by a friend or spouse who will listen and not judge. But in our busy lives the ability to listen seems to be a rare commodity in modern day America.
I have written a number of books. They are all free. I have tried to honor God in writing them because he is the source of my strength and my ever present help in time of need. A personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and the Bible with the Help of the Holy Spirit, is I believe the best answer to our every need.
Satan will work overtime to distract one who is suffering to keep him or her from the real solution to overcoming PTSD by keeping them from the knowledge (Hosea 4:6) that it is mainly a spiritual problem and requires spiritual help. Jesus Christ is not only Savior, but also: Healer, Deliverer, Reconciler, Provider and everything else we need. Check out this website: I believe that the answers you need can be found here.
